Pioneering Healthier Communities
Central Illinois Wellness Council
Fresh Fruit and Vegetables! Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Central Illinois Wellness Council and the USDA- the students of Trewyn Middle School are able to try some new fruits and vegetables twice weekly during the 2011- 2012 school year!
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!! We need volunteers to help with the prep and distribution of the fresh fruits and vegetables every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. To sign up contact Beth Reusch at 309-692-7631 or breusch@peoriaymca.org
The overall objective of the grant is to increase youths consumption of fruits and vegetables. By providing them with the food at school outside of lunch, the children are able to learn more about the fruit and vegetable, learn how to cook with the food and experience what it tastes like. Through this grant the Council hopes to make a difference in children’s diet to impact their present and future health.
This program is seen as an important catalyst for change in effort to combat childhood obesity by helping children learn more healthful eating habits.
