Accounting and Administrative Assistant

Job Description:

The Accounting and Administrative Assistant performs accounting and administrative support duties under the guidance and supervision of the Finance Director. Typical accounting duties will include but are not limited to membership billing, compiling daily deposit, collections of past due membership fees and returned checks, data input, and review of daily transactions. Administrative duties will include but are not limited to administrative support of the Chief Executive Officer, maintaining corporate records, preparing correspondence and other duties as assigned. This is a full time position with health and life insurance plans available after 90 days and an 8% employer pension fund contribution when vested.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a 2 year degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field. The education requirement may be waived for candidates with a minimum of two years experience in accounting or a comparable administrative support role. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to thrive in an automated office environment are a must.

The best way to describe this new initiative is to walk you through an ideal scenario.

Maria is a start/stopper exercise person. She knows she needs to work out, but that is the extent of it. She researches the YMCA and decides to check it out. As she enters, the front desk staff warmly greets her and offers to help her. Maria says, "I'm thinking of joining, " the employee responds positively and asks Maria to take a seat. Another employee that has 20 minutes to spare introduces themselves to Maria and they proceed to an unassuming quiet area and the YMCA employee says, "Tell me why you are here." Maria talks about her health while the employee listens. After summaraizing what Maria has said and affirming Maria for taking the step to come to the Y, the employee shares with Maria some things that may interest the potential new member. Afterwards, a tour is provided for Maria.

This scenario describes how simple it is to make a big difference to a potential new member in only a matter of minutes. Over the course of the next few months we will be working on different scenario's and items the YMCA can do to better meet our members needs.
