Activate America®

Activate America is the YMCA's response to the nation's growing health crisis. Our mission compels us to transform the way we work, both internally an externally, to support all Health Seekers and communities in their pursuit of well being in spriti, mind and body.

The best way to describe this new initiative is to walk you through an ideal scenario.

Maria is a start/stopper exercise person. She knows she needs to work out, but that is the extent of it. She researches the YMCA and decides to check it out. As she enters, the front desk staff warmly greets her and offers to help her. Maria says, "I'm thinking of joining, " the employee responds positively and asks Maria to take a seat. Another employee that has 20 minutes to spare introduces themselves to Maria and they proceed to an unassuming quiet area and the YMCA employee says, "Tell me why you are here." Maria talks about her health while the employee listens. After summaraizing what Maria has said and affirming Maria for taking the step to come to the Y, the employee shares with Maria some things that may interest the potential new member. Afterwards, a tour is provided for Maria.

This scenario describes how simple it is to make a big difference to a potential new member in only a matter of minutes. Over the course of the next few months we will be working on different scenario's and items the YMCA can do to better meet our members needs.

Employee of the Month

August Employee of the Month is Mark Goewey. He works in the fitness department as a fitness attendant. The Administrative staff at the Greater Peoria Family YMCA appreciates everything he does for the organization and congratulates him on a job well done!

A member nominated Mark Goewey because he is always very courteous and diligent at making sure the facility is well maintained. "He goes out of his way to help people. I see him arranging weights constantly, asking members if they need assistance and helping fellow employees with their jobs."
